Branwen and I have decided to move forward with a whole-bathroom renovation as our first significant project. Towards that aim, we created new floor plan.
Unlike the whole-house floorplan, this one is a higher detail. We actually learned several things by creating this new plan, namely that the wall behind the vanity is a double wall (double thickness). Weird.
The current Jack&Jill layout allows access from all three bathroom which I believe is an important feature. It is, however, a little awkward. For the first two weeks of living in this house, we actually used the bathroom as a hallway. Now, we keep the eastern door locked.
I can see several possibilities for a new bathroom layout:
- Renovate the bathroom without changing the overall layout
- Divide the space into two separate bathrooms
- Separate the space into three sections: two half-baths at either end, sharing a common bathing area.
Neither of us are fond of option #1. Options #2 could add significant value to the house, doubling the number of bathrooms, but without stealing closet space from the adjacent bedrooms, each bathroom would be very tight. I don't think this is the feel I am looking for. Option #3 may be the best compromise, adding a half-bath.
